Fantasy Hockey: Combing the Wire for Week 3

It is hard to believe that it is already week three of the fantasy hockey season but it is. Here are ten players currently available that you should consider adding.

1. Dustin Brown, F, Los Angeles Kings: Brown is available in over 60% of leagues in all formats. After struggling the last three seasons, he is off to a hot start with 4 goals and 3 assists.

2. Olli Maatta, D, Pittsburgh Penguins: Maatta is off to a terrific start with 2 goals and 5 assists. Penguins defenseman join the rush often in Mike Sullivan’s system so Maatta has a chance to produce offensively on a consistent basis.

3. Jesper Bratt, F, New Jersey Devils: Bratt has been a big part of the Devils 5-1 start scoring 3 goals to go along with 3 assists. He is still available in 48% of leagues across all formats.

4. Nikita Zaitsev, D, Toronto Maple Leafs: The young rearguard has 2 goals and 3 assists thus far this season. Zaitsev will not sustain this scoring pace but he is a good short term piece to acquire.

5. Connor Hellebuyck, G, Winnipeg Jets: Hellebuyck has 3 wins on the season to go along with a 2.11 goals against average and a .937 save percentage. Given veteran Steve Mason’s problems, Hellebuyck appears to be the guy in Winnipeg. He would be the ideal second goalie.

6. Bryan Rust, F, Pittsburgh Penguins: Rust is another Penguin you should consider adding. While he doesn’t score as much as some of his high profile teammates, he plays in all situations and finds his way on the score sheet on a nightly basis.

7. Vladislav Namestnikov, F, Tampa Bay Lightning: The third line center has 3 goals and 4 assists on the season to go along with 15 hits and 13 shots. That is quality production across the board.

8. Will Butcher, D, New Jersey Devils: The rookie defenseman has nine assists on the season thus far and is quarterbacking the Devils power play. Butcher is a +6 which means he is protecting the puck and making good decisions with it. He is on quite the streak. Grab him while you can.

9. Jason Pominville, F, Buffalo Sabres: The veteran winger has returned to Buffalo and experienced a renaissance of sorts after a down year with Minnesota in 2016. Pominville has 4 goals and 5 assists on the season thus far. If you are looking for a veteran scorer that you can stash on your bench, Pominville is worth picking up.

10. Malcolm Subban, G, Vegas Golden Knights: Subban played great against his former team, the Bruins on Sunday night limiting them to one goal. Conversely, he did not play well against the Sabres last night giving up four goals in a 5-4 overtime win. With Marc Andre Fleury out with a concussion, Subban is in line to get some serious work in the next week. He might worth adding if you are in the market for a second goalie.
