Fantasy Basketball: Combing the Wire for Week 5

Here are ten players you should add this week if they are free agents in your league.

1. Taj Gibson, PF, Minnesota Timberwolves: Gibson has reunited with former coach Tom Thibodeau and as a result has returned to being a productive player again. Gibson isn’t a starter but he is a solid bench piece or cheap pick up in daily fantasy.

2. Bobby Portis, PF, Chicago Bulls: Portis is back and he returned with a vengeance scoring 21 points and grabbing 13 rebounds against the Raptors on last Tuesday night.  The 6-11 250 Portis can score in the paint and he attacks the glass. If you are looking for a utility player or a bench piece, Portis could be a nice fit. The only downside is, he lacks versatility. He only plays power forward.

3. Dewayne Dedmon, C, Atlanta Hawks: The athletic big man is averaging 25 minutes a night in the ATL and he is making the most of his minutes. He isn’t going to fill up the stat sheet every night but he is averaging 9.5 points per game and 8 rebounds per game. Dedmon might not be a guy worthy of picking up in your standard league but he could be a nice pick up in DFS.

4. Tim Hardaway Jr, New York Knicks, SG, SF: Hardaway Jr. has carved quite a role for himself in the new look Knicks offense. He is avolume scorer and distributor. Outside of Kristaps Porzingis, the Knicks don’t really have a secondary scorer. Hardaway is that guy right now.

5. Nicholas Batum, SG/SF, Charlotte Hornets: Batum returns tonight and while the versatile swingman will be on a minutes limit, he is worth grabbing in a standard fantasy format. His minutes will over time. Batum is not a good DFS value right now.

6. Caris LeVert, SG, SF, PG, Brooklyn Nets: LeVert is not worth picking up in DFS but in a standard format, he is a nice bench piece who plays multiple positions and is worth rostering.

7. James Ennis III, SF, Memphis Grizzlies: Ennis has been a pleasant surprise for the Grizzlies. He is averaging 8.6 points per game over 30 minutes per games. The points per game is not impressive but Ennis is also averaging 4.6 rebounds per game which gives him cross category value.

8. Dillon Brooks, SF, Memphis Grizzlies: Another Grizzlies forward with good bench upside. Brooks is averaging 9.3 points per game along with 4.4 rebounds per contest. He is playing 29 minutes a night so Brooks is worth grabbing.

9. Alex Len, C, Phoenix Suns: Len’s stats won’t wow you but he attacks the glass and blocks shots which means Len has good cross category value.

10. John Henson, PF, C, Milwaukee Bucks: The trade of Greg Monroe has opened the door for Henson and he has made the most of it. Henson is splitting time with Thon Maker and he doesn’t score enough but he is worth looking at in standard fantasy leagues.
