Nick Kingham is off to a 2-0 start and worth adding if you need starting pitching.
As we all know, fantasy baseball is a grind. You constantly shuffling the deck in an effort to find the best players to fit your roster. It’s hard work.
Let us help you. Here are ten players you should target on the waiver wire this week.
1. Walker Buehler, P, Dodgers: With Clayton Kershaw on the D.L, Buehler is the guy to pick up as a replacement. He is owned in 59% of ESPN leagues and 40% of yahoo leagues as of Monday.
2. Nick Kingham, P, Pirates: Kingham has been very impressive through two starts. Only time will tell how long Kingham can pitch at this level but in the short term, he is a worthwhile addition.
3. Jorge Soler, OF, Royals: Could Soler finally be playing up to his potential? He has been swinging a hot bat of late and currently has 4 home runs and 12 RBI to go along with a .308 average.
4. Matt Adams, 1B/OF, Nationals: Adams continues to be one of the bench options in baseball. He is getting regular at bats thanks to injuries and the inconsistent play of Ryan Zimmerman. Adams plays four to five times per week is he is worth rostering. If nothing else, he is a bench piece for you.
5. Jose Peraza, 2B/SS, Reds: Peraza got off to a slow start but he is hitting the ball much better in the past month and is getting on base. Peraza doesn’t really offer any power but he can hit singles and double and he swipes bags. That’s where he is valuable.
6. Caleb Smith, P, Marlins: The Marlins starting rotation has been a pleasant surprise thanks to guys like Smith and Jarlin Garcia. Smith is a crafty lefty who keeps hitters off balance with his off-speed stuff. He has taken advantage of a couple of bad line ups but the numbers are good enough that he is worth taking a chance on.
7. Denard Span, OF, Rays: The grizzled veteran is taking advantage of playing everyday and putting quality numbers. Span has hit 3 home runs and driven in 17 runs to go with 3 stolen bases. Numbers good enough to at least store him on your bench.
8. Sean Newcomb, P, Braves: The Big lefty is really starting to come into his own. You might want to grab Newcomb now because the potential is there for him to be a breakout star in the second half. He is currently owned in 58% of yahoo leagues and 36% of ESPN leagues.
9. Kyle Gibson, P, Twins: Gibson has been steady for the Twins despite the club’s tough start. He has been their best pitcher thus far this season. The big righty has 44 strikeouts on the season. He is widely available in both ESPN (28%) and yahoo leagues (25%).
10. Fernando Romero, P, Twins: The youngster is 2-0 thus far and has looked impressive for the Twins. It might be a little early to jump on the wagon but keep an eye on Romero in the coming weeks.
