As we enter week seven in standard fantasy baseball leagues, there are several big name producers that are still available on the waiver in leagues across the country. Here are ten players you should target if they are available in your league.
1. Scooter Gennett, 2B, Reds: Gennett is scorching hot right now. He hit five home runs in seven games last week for the surging Reds who swept the Dodgers over the weekend. Gennett is currently owned in 77% of yahoo leagues and 48% of ESPN leagues. Clearly yahoo owners are more bullish on him than ESPN owners right now.
2. Ryon Healy, 1B/3B/DH, Mariners: Healy is healthy and raking. He is finally getting comfortable in the middle of Seattle’s line up. With Robinson Cano getting hurt against the Tigers yesterday, Healy will have to assume a bigger role in the Mariners line up. Look for him to continue to produce.
3. Fernando Romero, P, Twins: I had Romero on this list last week. After another solid start against the Angels yesterday, Romero is worth adding to your rotation. He has had three straight strong starts to start his career against the Blue Jays, Cardinals and Angels. Romero is legit and worth owning.
4. Jeremy Hellickson, P, Nationals: With guys like Yu Darvish and Chase Anderson hitting the D.L this week, there is a premium on starting pitching. There isn’t much out there, especially in 12 team leagues or deeper leagues. The crafty righty would be a nice stop gap pick up. Hellickson is currently available in 39% of yahoo leagues and 28% of ESPN leagues.
5. Jorge Soler, OF, Royals: Like I said last week, Soler is finally figuring it out. He hits for power and average and he plays above average defense. If you need an outfielder, especially you Adam Eaton, Eric Thames owners, give Soler a look. He’s still out there in most ESPN and yahoo leagues.
6. Maikel Franco, 3B, Phillies: Franco has been moved to the clean up spot by manager Gabe Kapler and ever since then, he has been raking. Franco is not as widely avilable as some of the other guys on this list but he is still out there in some leagues. He is currently owned in 67% of yahoo leagues and 62% of ESPN leagues.
7. Mitch Moreland, 1B, Red Sox: Moreland is quietly putting together another solid fantasy season. He is hitting .322 with 6 home runs and 20 RBI. The only drawback with Moreland is he doesn’t play every day. Otherwise, he would make an excellent bench bat. He is owned in 33% of yahoo leagues and 12% of ESPN leagues. He’s available.
8. Freddy Peralta, P, Brewers: With Chase Anderson expected to miss the rest of this week, now might be a good time to take a look at Peralta after his dominant 13 strikeout performance against the Rockies.
9. Tyler Clippard, RP, Blue Jays: With Roberto Osuna out, Clippard will get more save opportunities. If nothing else, he will have value as hold guy or set up man out of the Blue Jays bullpen. Clippard has always been a high strikeout guy so there is value there if you are looking for extra pitching points.
10. Matt Adams, 1B/OF, Nationals: With Ryan Zimmerman on the D.L, Adams is a must own. Just like Mitch Moreland, he might not get everyday at bats but he produces enough that he is worth adding as a bench piece.
