Fantasy Baseball: Combing The Wire for This Week

Eloy Jimenez could be a key September pick up for teams in the fantasy playoffs.

With the trade deadline having come and gone, it is time to look at the waiver wire to improve your roster. Here are ten players who should consider adding for the stretch run.

1. Eloy Jimenez, OF, White Sox: The number three prospect in all of baseball is absolutely crushing it at Triple A. Jimenez is hitting .376. He will be a September call up. It’s only a matter of time before he makes his debut on the South Side. Jimenez could be a key playoff bat.

2. Mike Fiers, SP, A’s: Fiers pitched 5.1 strong innings against the Dodgers last Wednesday. He has been one of the best pitchers in the American League in the past month. In his eight starts, Fiers has a 1.93 ERA and 37/8 strikeout to walk ratio.

3. Tyler Glasnow, SP, Rays: 12 IP, 3 ER, 3 BB, 20 K’s. That is Glasnow’s stat line in three starts with the Rays. The big righty has been terrific for Tampa and is a worthy pick up down the stretch. He is only owned in only 27% of leagues.

4. Jackie Bradley Jr. OF, Red Sox: Bradley is getting hot and we all know how that goes. JBJ is worth owning when he is on one of these streaks. He is currently owned in 24% of leagues so he is available. Grab him he’s available.

5. Matthew Boyd, SP, Tigers: Starting pitching is at a premium this time of year. If you can find a starter who averages 10-12 points per start, he is worth rostering. Boyd is averaging 17.75 points per start in standard scoring in his last four starts. Those are ace numbers. Boyd’s ownership is 21%. If he’s available in your league, add him.

6. Edwin Jackson, SP, A’s: Jackson has been terrific in his last three starts. He has averaged six innings pitched and has 14 strikeouts in that span. He is hot right now. Jackson faces the Astros at home on Friday night. Given Houston’s recent struggles offensively, Jackson is a worthwhile pick up.

7. Jose LeClerc, RP, Rangers: It’s down to bare bones this time of year when it comes to relievers. LeClerc has been on of late. He has a 62 strikeouts in 43 2/3 IP (12.78 K/9). He only has 2 saves on the season but he’s clearly the closer in Texas. The opportunities won’t always be there but he is good for three appearances a week anyway.

8. Mallex Smith, OF, Rays: Smith has nine triples and 25 steals on the season. He is hitting .296 and has been the table setter for a good Rays offense. Smith is available in 47% of ESPN leagues and 43% of yahoo leagues.

9. A.J Minter, RP, Braves: Minter is the closer for the foreseeable future in Atlanta. His numbers aren’t eye popping but Minter gets the job and for fantasy purposes, that’s all you need.

10. Ryan Zimmerman, 1B, Nationals: Zimmerman is back and healthy. He is going to play everyday moving forward and is worth rostering if you need a first baseman or a bench bat who you can match up depending on the schedule.
